Description

Oscal D is a supplement that provides both vitamin D (as alfacalcidol) and calcium carbonate. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium and phosphate, while calcium is needed for bone strength and proper muscle function. Together, they are used to prevent and treat calcium and vitamin D deficiency, especially in patients with weak bones, kidney problems, or other conditions affecting calcium absorption. In Pakistan, doctors often prescribe Oscal D for patients with osteoporosis, vitamin D deficiency, soft bones (osteomalacia/rickets), and calcium loss due to chronic illness or old age.

Uses

Doctors usually recommend Oscal D for:

  • Vitamin D deficiency

  • Hypocalcemia (low calcium levels)

  • Osteoporosis and osteomalacia

  • Rickets in children (vitamin D–resistant or malabsorptive types)

  • Bone disease in patients with chronic kidney problems

  • Hyperparathyroidism (too much or too little parathyroid hormone)

Dosage

  • Usually taken once daily with a meal and a full glass of water

  • Dose may vary depending on the patient’s condition and blood test results

  • Do not take more than prescribed

  • Regular blood tests may be needed to check calcium and phosphate levels

Missed Dose

  • Take as soon as you remember

  • If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one

  • Do not double the dose

Overdose

Taking more than the prescribed amount can cause high calcium levels, leading to nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, or confusion. Seek medical help immediately if overdose is suspected.
