Ospamox

Description

Ospamox 500mg Tablet contains Amoxicillin, a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the destruction of susceptible bacteria. It is commonly prescribed for bacterial infections affecting the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, ear, nose, throat, and other parts of the body.

Uses

Doctors usually prescribe Ospamox 500mg Tablet for the treatment of bacterial infections such as:

• Respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, sinusitis)

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Ear, nose, and throat infections

• Dental infections

• Gastrointestinal infections caused by susceptible bacteria

How it Works

Amoxicillin is a semi-synthetic penicillin with broad-spectrum activity. It blocks the synthesis of bacterial cell wall mucopeptides, weakening and killing the bacteria.

How to Use

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.

• Do not stop treatment early, even if symptoms improve.

• Complete the prescribed course to prevent resistance.

Side Effects

Some patients may experience:

• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

• Skin rash, itching, or allergic reactions

• Dizziness or convulsions (rare)

• Liver problems (hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice)

• Severe skin reactions (rare): erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, exfoliative dermatitis, drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS)

Seek medical attention if you experience severe allergic reactions such as swelling of the face, lips, or throat.

Warnings & Precautions

• Allergy: Inform your doctor if you are allergic to penicillins, cephalosporins, or beta-lactam antibiotics.

• Driving: This medicine may cause dizziness or convulsions in some patients. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if unwell.

• Hypersensitivity: Serious, sometimes fatal allergic reactions have been reported.

• Prolonged use: May cause overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms.

• Pregnancy & Lactation: Always consult your doctor before use.

When Not to Use

Do not use Ospamox if you:

• Are allergic to Amoxicillin, penicillins, or any component of this medicine.

• Have had a severe allergic reaction to any antibiotic in the past.

Drug Interactions

Ospamox may interact with:

• Allopurinol (increased risk of skin rash)

• Probenecid (increases Amoxicillin blood levels)

• Warfarin (may increase bleeding risk)

• Tetracycline antibiotics (may reduce effectiveness)

• Methotrexate (increased toxicity risk)

Always inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking.

Storage

• Store at room temperature, below 25°C.

• Protect from direct light and heat.

• Keep out of reach of children.
