Description

Risperidone is an atypical antipsychotic widely used in managing schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and behavioral symptoms associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). It works by blocking dopamine (D2) and serotonin (5-HT2) receptors, helping balance neurotransmitters involved in mood, perception, aggression, and impulse control. Its dual action makes it effective in controlling both positive symptoms (hallucinations, delusions, agitation) and negative symptoms (social withdrawal, apathy) of schizophrenia, as well as irritability and aggression linked to autism.

In Case of Overdose

Overdose symptoms may include drowsiness, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, fainting, tremors, or seizures. Immediate medical attention is essential. Treatment may involve gastric lavage, activated charcoal, or supportive cardiac/respiratory care depending on severity.

Missed Dose

• Take as soon as remembered unless it’s nearly time for the next dose.

• Do not double the dose.
