Description

Description Cebosh DS 30ml Suspension 200mg/5ml contains Cefixime, a third-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic for treating bacterial infections. It works by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) in bacterial cell walls, inhibiting the final stage of peptidoglycan synthesis, which weakens the wall and causes cell death. This double-strength (DS) cherry-flavored suspension is easy to administer, especially for children or those who prefer liquids, and provides broad-spectrum coverage against susceptible gram-negative and some gram-positive bacteria. It’s ideal for outpatient treatment of mild to moderate infections.

Ingredients Cefixime 200mg per 5ml (as Cefixime Trihydrate).

Drug Class Third-Generation Cephalosporin / Beta-Lactam Antibiotic.

Dosage Form Oral Suspension (30ml bottle; DS formulation).

Uses Cebosh DS Suspension is prescribed for:

  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs).
  • Otitis media (middle ear infection).
  • Pharyngitis and tonsillitis (throat infections).
  • Acute bronchitis and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis.
  • Uncomplicated gonorrhoea (cervical/urethral).
  • Other susceptible infections like typhoid fever or community-acquired pneumonia.

Doctor’s Review Pediatricians and general practitioners often recommend Cebosh DS for its convenient liquid form and effective coverage. As one physician comments: “Cebosh DS is a reliable first-line option for ear or throat infections in kids, with its DS strength allowing smaller volumes for accurate dosing. It clears infections quickly, but always pair it with a full course to curb resistance.”

Dosage (Follow physician’s instructions — typical guideline)

  • Adults & children over 12 years or >45kg: 400mg daily (10ml) as a single dose or divided twice daily.
  • Children 6 months-12 years: 8mg/kg/day (0.4ml/kg) divided every 12 hours, max 400mg/day.
  • Uncomplicated gonorrhoea: 400mg single dose.
  • Shake well before use; measure with provided syringe.
  • Duration: 7-14 days; adjust in renal impairment (CrCl <60ml/min): Reduce to half dose.

In Case of Overdose Overdose may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or rarely seizures. Seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms include abdominal pain or confusion. Treatment is supportive (e.g., activated charcoal if recent, hydration, monitoring electrolytes); hemodialysis may help remove excess drug.

Missed Dose Take as soon as remembered unless close to the next dose. Do not double up to avoid GI upset or resistance risks. Resume your regular schedule and tell your doctor if doses are often missed.

How to Use

  • Shake the bottle vigorously for 15 seconds before each dose to ensure even distribution.
  • Measure with the enclosed oral syringe or spoon; do not use household utensils.
  • Take with or without food; food may reduce stomach upset.
  • Store reconstituted suspension in refrigerator (up to 14 days); discard if expired.
  • Complete the full course, even if symptoms improve.

When Not to Use Avoid Cebosh DS if:

  • Hypersensitive to Cefixime or any cephalosporins.
  • Known allergy to penicillin (partial cross-reactivity risk).
  • Severe renal impairment without dose adjustment.

Side Effects Common:

  • Diarrhea (discontinue if severe).
  • Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dyspepsia.
  • Headache, dizziness.
  • Changes in stool color.

Uncommon / Severe (Stop and seek medical help):

  • Seizures, jaundice, elevated liver enzymes (AST/ALT, alkaline phosphatase).
  • Elevated serum amylase (pancreatitis risk).
  • Allergic reactions (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty).

Precautions & Warnings

  • Use cautiously in penicillin-sensitive patients due to possible cross-allergenicity.
  • Monitor renal function; adjust dose in impairment to prevent accumulation.
  • Broad-spectrum use may disrupt gut flora, risking C. difficile colitis—watch for persistent diarrhea.
  • Prescribe carefully in GI disease history (e.g., colitis).
  • May alter lab tests (e.g., positive Coombs test)—inform your doctor.

Drug Interactions

  • Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin): May enhance bleeding risk—monitor INR.
  • Carbamazepine: Potential for increased levels—monitor for toxicity.
  • Probenecid: Delays Cefixime excretion, raising levels.
  • No major food interactions, but avoid antacids near doses if GI upset occurs.

Food Interactions

  • Can take with or without meals; food may ease stomach irritation.
  • No significant restrictions, but maintain a balanced diet to support immunity during infection.
  • Avoid alcohol if it worsens GI side effects.

Storage/Disposal

  • Store unreconstituted powder at room temperature (15-30°C), away from direct light and heat.
  • Once mixed, refrigerate (2-8°C) and use within 14 days; shake before each use.
  • Keep out of reach of children; discard unused portion after expiry.
  • Dispose via pharmacy returns; do not flush.

Quick Tips

  • Shake thoroughly each time to resuspend the powder.
  • Use the measuring device for precise dosing, especially in kids.
  • If diarrhea persists, consult your doctor—probiotics may help.
  • Finish the entire bottle to prevent relapse or resistance.
  • Store in fridge after mixing but warm to room temp before giving for better taste.
