Uses

Clarigen is an antibiotic medicine that belongs to the macrolide group. Doctors in Pakistan prescribe it for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections, including:

• Respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia, bronchitis, and sinusitis

• Throat and tonsil infections

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Ear infections

• Certain dental infections

• As part of combination therapy for Helicobacter pylori infection in stomach ulcers

Clarigen works by stopping bacteria from producing proteins needed for their growth, which helps the body clear the infection.

Formula

The active ingredient in Clarigen is Clarithromycin.

Dosage Form

Clarigen is commonly available in tablets (250mg and 500mg) and as an oral suspension for children.

Precautions

When using Clarigen, some precautions should be followed:

• Take the medicine as prescribed by your doctor, usually with or without food.

• Inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems, irregular heartbeat, or a history of allergy to macrolides.

• Do not take Clarigen with certain medicines (such as some statins, ergot alkaloids, or strong heart rhythm drugs) due to possible interactions.

• Complete the full course even if symptoms improve early.

• Avoid alcohol and unnecessary caffeine while on this medicine.

Side Effects

Clarigen is generally effective, but some side effects may occur, such as:

• Nausea, vomiting, or stomach upset

• Diarrhea

• Headache or dizziness

• Altered taste in the mouth

• Rarely, liver function disturbances, irregular heartbeat, or severe allergic reactions may occur
