Galvecta 50mg

Galvecta is an oral antidiabetic medicine that combines vildagliptin and metformin. It is used along with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This combination works by improving insulin activity, reducing sugar production in the liver, and lowering glucose absorption in the body. It is not recommended for patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Primary Uses

• Type 2 diabetes mellitus.

• Helps improve blood sugar control when diet and exercise alone are not enough.

• Can be used with other antidiabetic medicines if needed.

Directions for Use

• Take the tablet by mouth with water, usually with or after food to reduce stomach upset.

• Swallow whole; do not crush or chew.

• Take it at the same time every day.

• Always follow your doctor’s instructions for dosage and duration.

Side Effects
Some patients may experience:

• Stomach upset, nausea, or taste changes.

• Flatulence or diarrhea.

• Headache.

• Low blood sugar (especially when used with other diabetes medicines).

• Upper respiratory tract infection.

• Skin rashes or allergic reactions.

• Liver-related problems (rare but possible).

• Vitamin B12 deficiency with long-term use.

Serious but rare: Stevens-Johnson syndrome (severe skin reaction), hepatitis. Seek medical help if these occur.

Warnings and Precautions

• Not suitable for children.

• Not recommended in pregnancy; consult your doctor.

• Safe in breastfeeding only under medical advice.

• Inform your doctor if you have a history of heart, liver, or kidney disease.

• Discontinue 48 hours before and after surgery or radiology procedures involving contrast dye.

• Avoid heavy alcohol consumption while on this medicine.

Contraindications
Do not use Galvecta if you have:

• Allergy to vildagliptin, metformin, or related drugs.

• Severe kidney or liver impairment.

• Heart failure or severe breathing disorders.

• Diabetic ketoacidosis or pre-coma state.

• History of alcohol abuse.
