Description

Arix (Cetirizine) is a second-generation antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms. It works by blocking histamine, the chemical responsible for allergic reactions such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, skin rashes, and hives. Compared to older antihistamines, Cetirizine causes less drowsiness, making it suitable for daytime use. Doctors in Pakistan commonly prescribe it for seasonal allergies, hay fever, conjunctivitis, and chronic urticaria (hives).

Uses

  • Relief of hay fever (allergic rhinitis) – sneezing, runny nose, itchy throat, watery eyes.

  • Relief of allergic conjunctivitis – redness, watery, and itchy eyes.

  • Treatment of chronic urticaria (hives) – skin rashes and itching.

  • Seasonal and perennial allergies (dust, pollen, pet dander).

  • Management of nasal congestion and sneezing.

  • Relief from allergic skin reactions.

Dosage

  • Adults & children (6 years and above): 10mg (1 tablet) once daily.

  • Children (2–6 years): 5mg (½ tablet) once daily or as prescribed.

  • Kidney/Liver impairment: 5mg daily (dose adjustment required).

  • Swallow whole with water, with or without food.

  • Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

How to Use

  • Take at the same time daily for best results.

  • Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew or crush.

  • May be taken with or without meals.

  • If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible (skip if near the next scheduled dose — do not double).

Side Effects

Some patients may experience:

  • Mild drowsiness or fatigue.

  • Headache or dizziness.

  • Dry mouth.

  • Nausea or stomach upset.

  • Rare: rash, sore throat, or rapid heartbeat.

Seek immediate medical attention if severe allergic reaction, chest pain, or breathing difficulty occurs.

  • Avoid alcohol, as it may worsen drowsiness.

Contraindications

Do not use if:

  • Allergic to Cetirizine or related antihistamines.
