Indications

This medicine is used as a tranquilizer to treat insomnia as a short-term treatment.

Contraindications

This medicine is contraindicated in neuromuscular diseases causing skeletal muscle weakness, respiratory failure, and severe sleep apnea (sleep disorder in which breathing stops).

Precautions

Precautions are advised in patients with a history of psychiatric illness, drug abuse and patients with muscle weakness. Prolonged use should be avoided, elderly patients should observe caution while using this medicine. Avoid driving or using heavy machinery the next day as this medicine may affect the performance of skilled tasks.

Side-effects

The side effects are, taste abnormalities, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, memory loss, hallucinations, nightmares, confusion, and paradoxical effects (the opposite effect of the drug).

Pregnancy

Risk cannot be out ruled, hence caution is advised.

Lactation

This medicine is contraindicated in lactating mothers.
