Introduction
Dermosporin contains Clotrimazole, an antifungal medicine widely used in Pakistan for common skin infections. Doctors prescribe it for conditions such as athlete’s foot, jock itch, ringworm, candidiasis, and pityriasis (tinea versicolor). These infections often cause itching, redness, and changes in skin color, and clotrimazole helps by stopping the fungus from growing.
Composition
The active ingredient is Clotrimazole, which belongs to the azole group of antifungal medicines.
Medical Use
Dermosporin is generally used for:
-
Athlete’s foot (tinea pedis)
-
Jock itch (tinea cruris)
-
Ringworm (tinea corporis)
-
Fungal skin infections caused by Candida
-
Pityriasis versicolor (light or dark patches on the skin)
How to Apply
The cream is for external use only. The affected area should be cleaned and dried before application. A thin layer of Dermosporin is usually applied twice daily, or as directed by a doctor. It should cover the infected area and some of the surrounding skin. Hands should be washed after use. The cream is not meant for eyes, mouth, or broken skin. Duration of treatment depends on the type of infection, and regular use is important for best results.
Precautions
-
Use only as advised by a doctor.
-
Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
-
Do not cover or bandage the treated area unless directed.
-
If irritation, swelling, or worsening of the infection occurs, consult a doctor.
-
Pregnant or breastfeeding women should seek medical advice before use.
-
Store at room temperature, away from children.
Side Effects
Most people tolerate Dermosporin well. Mild irritation, redness, or burning at the site of application may occur in some cases. Serious reactions are rare but should be reported to a doctor.
Dr. Ayesha Malik – Consultant Dermatologist
Clotrimazole creams, such as Dermosporin, are widely used for treating fungal skin infections. They are considered reliable and effective when applied consistently, and most people tolerate them well. It is important to continue using the cream for the full recommended duration, as stopping too soon can allow the infection to come back. If irritation develops, or if symptoms fail to improve, further medical guidance may be needed.
