Diu-Tansin

Introduction
Diu-Tansin is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension). It combines two active ingredients — Losartan Potassium, which relaxes blood vessels, and Hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic that helps the body remove excess salt and water. Together, they lower blood pressure and reduce strain on the heart, kidneys, and blood vessels.

Composition
Each tablet contains:

• Losartan Potassium 50mg – an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB)

• Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5mg – a thiazide diuretic (water pill)

Uses
Doctors in Pakistan prescribe Diu-Tansin for:

• Management of high blood pressure. (hypertension)

• Reducing the risk of complications such as stroke, heart disease, and kidney damage linked to uncontrolled blood pressure.

How it Works

• Losartan blocks the action of angiotensin II, a natural chemical that causes blood vessels to tighten. This allows vessels to relax and lowers blood pressure.

• Hydrochlorothiazide helps the kidneys pass extra water and salt, which also reduces blood pressure.

How to Take

• Take by mouth with water, usually once daily or as directed by your doctor.

• Best taken at the same time each day for consistent effect.

• Do not stop the medicine suddenly without medical advice.

Precautions & Warnings

• Avoid if you are allergic to Losartan, Hydrochlorothiazide, or other sulfonamide-derived drugs.

• Not recommended in patients with severe liver disease, serious kidney impairment, or during pregnancy.

• Use cautiously if you have diabetes, gout, or electrolyte imbalances.

• May cause dizziness — avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how your body reacts.

• Regular monitoring of kidney function, electrolytes, and blood pressure is advised during therapy.

Possible Side Effects
Some patients may experience:

• Headache, dizziness, tiredness.

• Cough, sinus congestion, or sore throat.

• Stomach upset, diarrhea, or nausea.

• Muscle cramps, joint pain, or backache.

• Changes in blood tests such as potassium, uric acid, or blood sugar levels.

Seek medical advice if you notice swelling, chest pain, irregular heartbeat, or signs of an allergic reaction (rash, breathing difficulty).

Drug Interactions
Diu-Tansin may interact with:

• Other blood pressure medicines or diuretics.

• Diabetes medicines. (insulin or oral agents)

• Painkillers. (NSAIDs)

• Steroids, anti-cancer drugs, or antibiotics.

• Lithium, digoxin, or drugs for heart rhythm problems.

• Alcohol — which can increase dizziness or low blood pressure.

Always inform your doctor about all medicines or supplements you are taking.

Storage
Store at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
