Efroxil

Efroxil contains Cefadroxil, a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It is commonly used for bacterial infections affecting different parts of the body. By interfering with bacterial cell wall formation, it either kills the bacteria or prevents them from multiplying. Importantly, this antibiotic is effective against bacterial infections only and does not treat viral illnesses such as the common cold or flu.

Uses

Efroxil is generally used for the treatment of:

• Respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis).

• Skin and soft tissue infections.

• Urinary tract infections.

• Ear, nose, and throat infections.

• Bone and joint infections (in some cases).

How to Use

• Take orally, with or without food, at the same time every day for the prescribed duration.

• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush, chew, or break it.

• If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one.

• Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

Side Effects

Possible side effects of Cefadroxil may include:

• Nausea or vomiting.

• Diarrhea.

• Abdominal discomfort.

• Headache or dizziness.

• Rash or allergic reactions.

Serious but rare effects:

• Bloody or watery stools (even weeks after treatment).

• Mouth sores, unusual bleeding, or persistent fever.

• Use with caution in patients with kidney disease; dose adjustment may be required.

Cefadroxil is a reliable oral antibiotic for mild to moderate infections, especially of the throat, urinary tract, and skin.  Patients to follow the prescribed duration strictly, as stopping early can lead to recurrence or resistance. It is generally well-tolerated, though stomach upset or diarrhea can occur. Immediate evaluation is required if severe diarrhea or allergic reactions develop.
