Description

F-Clox contains Flucloxacillin, a penicillin-class antibiotic. It is commonly prescribed to treat bacterial infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus and other penicillin-sensitive organisms. F-Clox works by interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis, which leads to bacterial death. It is especially effective against infections involving the skin, soft tissues, respiratory tract, bones, and joints.

Uses

F-Clox may be prescribed for:

  • Skin and soft tissue infections (boils, abscesses, cellulitis)

  • Respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis)

  • Bone and joint infections (osteomyelitis, septic arthritis)

  • Wound and surgical site infections

  • Bloodstream infections caused by susceptible organisms

  • Endocarditis (infection of the heart lining, in selected cases)

How to Use

  • F-Clox may be taken orally in capsule form or administered by injection, depending on the severity of the infection.

  • Capsules should be taken on an empty stomach (30–60 minutes before meals or 2 hours after meals) with a full glass of water.

  • Dosage is determined by the severity of infection, age, weight, and medical condition.

  • Complete the full course even if symptoms improve early to avoid antibiotic resistance.

Side Effects

Possible side effects include:

  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea

  • Abdominal discomfort or indigestion

  • Rash, itching, or other allergic skin reactions

  • Rare but serious: liver dysfunction (yellowing of eyes/skin, dark urine), severe allergic reactions (swelling, difficulty breathing), or severe diarrhea due to Clostridium difficile infection

Precautions and Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to penicillins or beta-lactam antibiotics.

  • Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney disease; dose adjustments may be required.

  • Prolonged use may lead to secondary infections (e.g., fungal infections).

  • Inform your doctor about any other medications you are taking to avoid drug interactions.

  • Safe use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be confirmed by a doctor.

  • Alcohol should be limited, as it may increase gastrointestinal side effects.

Storage

  • Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C.

  • Protect from moisture and direct light.

  • Keep out of reach of children.

Doctor’s Review

“Flucloxacillin remains an important antibiotic for staphylococcal infections, particularly those affecting the skin, bones, and joints. It is effective in clearing localized infections as well as preventing the spread of resistant bacteria. Patients generally tolerate it well, although allergic reactions and liver enzyme changes are possible. Careful monitoring ensures safe and effective use, especially in prolonged courses.”
