Kempro

Description

Kempro contains Procyclidine 5mg, a medicine that helps control movement problems. It works by blocking certain cholinergic signals in the brain, which restores the balance between dopamine and acetylcholine in the basal ganglia. Because of this action, it is useful for managing symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders caused by psychiatric medications.

Uses

Doctors prescribe Kempro for:

• Parkinson’s disease symptoms (rigidity, tremors, stiffness)

• Involuntary movements due to antipsychotic drug side effects

• Muscle control problems linked with nervous system disorders

How to Use

• Take by mouth after meals, usually 3 to 4 times daily or as advised by your doctor

• Swallow with a glass of water

• Do not crush or chew the tablets

• Take regularly at the same time each day for best results

Dosage

• Initial dose: 2.5mg three times daily after meals

• Maintenance dose: May be increased gradually to 5mg three times daily

• In some cases, an additional dose may be given at bedtime

• Always follow your doctor’s instructions carefully

Side Effects

Some people may notice:

• Dry mouth and tongue

• Blurred vision or enlarged pupils

• Constipation

• Difficulty urinating

• Hot, dry skin and flushing

• Mild dizziness or fever

Seek immediate help if side effects become severe or persistent.

Precautions & Warnings

• Not suitable for patients with angle-closure glaucoma, prostate enlargement, or gastrointestinal blockage

• Use cautiously in elderly patients, who may be more sensitive to side effects

• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have liver/kidney problems

• Do not increase or reduce the dose on your own

Drug Interactions

Procyclidine may interact with:

• Other anticholinergic medicines (increasing side effects)

• Psychiatric medications

• Certain stomach and bladder medicines

Storage

• Store at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight

• Keep out of reach of children

• Do not use after the expiry date
