Description

Levetiracetam is a medicine used to control seizures in patients with epilepsy. It works by calming the overactive signals in the brain that can trigger seizures. Doctors may also use it in certain cases of seizures related to brain surgery or other neurological conditions.

Uses

Levetiracetam may be prescribed for:

• Epilepsy (partial, generalized, or myoclonic seizures)

• Seizures after neurosurgery

• Seizure management in children and adults with epilepsy

How to Use

• Taken by mouth, with or without food

• Use the measuring spoon/cup provided for accurate dosing

• Take at the same times daily for best results

• Do not stop suddenly — stopping can trigger seizures

• Always follow your doctor’s prescribed dose and schedule

Side Effects

Some patients may notice:

• Headache

• Drowsiness or dizziness

• Irritability or mood changes

• Stomach upset

• Tiredness

 Rare but serious: sudden mood swings, aggression, or severe allergic reactions. Report these to your doctor right away.

Precautions & Warnings

• Use carefully if you have kidney or liver disease

• May cause sleepiness — avoid driving or operating machinery until you know its effects

• Avoid alcohol, as it can worsen side effects

• Do not stop suddenly — your doctor will guide you to reduce the dose slowly

• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning pregnancy

Contraindications

Do not use if you:

• Are allergic to Levetiracetam or similar medicines

• Have severe kidney problems without doctor supervision
