Description

Cefixime 400 mg is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used for treating a variety of bacterial infections. It belongs to the cephalosporin group and works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, which weakens the bacteria and eventually leads to their destruction. This makes it effective against many respiratory, urinary, and skin infections caused by susceptible bacteria.

Uses

Cefixime 400 mg Capsules may be prescribed for:

• Respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia and bronchitis

• Urinary tract infections

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Ear, throat, and sinus infections

• Bone and joint infections

• Certain sexually transmitted infections (e.g., gonorrhea)

Dosage

• Adults: 400 mg daily, either as a single dose or divided into two doses (every 12 hours), depending on infection type and severity

• Children (6 months – 12 years, weight <45 kg): 8 mg/kg/day, as a single or divided dose

• Children >12 years or weight >45 kg: 400 mg once daily

• Always follow the exact dosing schedule prescribed by a physician

How to Use

Swallow the capsule whole with water. It can be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day. Complete the full course, even if symptoms improve earlier, to prevent relapse or resistance.

Side Effects

Some patients may experience:

• Diarrhea, nausea, or stomach pain

• Headache or dizziness

• Rash or itching

• Vaginal yeast infection in women

Storage

Store at room temperature, away from moisture, direct heat, and light. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after expiry. Dispose responsibly as per pharmacist guidance.
