Indications:
This medication is indicated in patients with diabetes insipidus (water diabetes) or certain kinds of head injury or brain surgery, the body does not make enough vasopressin (water retaining hormone). This medication is also used to control increased thirst, prevents dehydration, and nighttime bedwetting in children.
Contraindications:
This medication is contraindicated in patients with low sodium levels in blood, high blood pressure, heart problems, kidney impairment and cystic fibrosis (disease with increased mucus density).
Precautions:
The patient taking this medication must be cautious in cases of allergies to this medication, kidney disease, high blood pressure, heart problems, increased thirst without being thirsty, and hyponatremia (low sodium in blood).
Side effects:
The patient taking this medication might experience headache, nausea, upset stomach or flushing of the face.
