INDICATIONS


This medication is used in the treatment of post menopausal osteoporosis (porous one disease) to reduce risk of vertebral(backbone) and hip fractures.

PRECAUTIONS

Upper GI disorders. Treat hypocalcemia(low blood calcium) or vitamin D deficiency first.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

This medication should not be used in patients with renal (kidney) impairment  as well in patients with esophageal(muscular through which food passes) abnormalities. It should also not be used in patients with hypocalcemia (low blood calcium ).

SIDE EFFECTS

Esophageal ulcer (type of peptic ulcer), abdominal pain , dyspepsia(indigestion ) , dysphagia(swallowing difficulties ) , abdominal distention , musculoskeletal pain , headache,uveitis(eye inflammation) , oropharyngeal ulceration (ulceration of the part of the neck below the mouth)
