Description

Nexfen contains Ibuprofen, a widely used medicine for pain relief, inflammation, and fever. It works by blocking prostaglandins — chemicals in the body that cause pain, swelling, and high temperature. Nexfen is often prescribed for short-term relief of mild to moderate pain and inflammation in both adults and children.

Uses in Pakistan

Doctors commonly prescribe Nexfen for:

  • Headache, toothache, and body pain

  • Muscle pain, back pain, and strains

  • Fever and flu-related discomfort

  • Menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea)

  • Joint pain, arthritis, and swelling

  • Minor injuries, sprains, or post-surgery pain

Dosage

  • Take as directed by your doctor.

  • Adults: usually 200–400mg every 6–8 hours if needed.

  • Do not exceed the maximum daily dose.

  • Swallow with a full glass of water, preferably after meals.

In Case of Overdose

Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness, or drowsiness. Severe cases may cause breathing problems or low blood pressure. Immediate medical attention is required.

Missed Dose

  • Take it as soon as you remember.

  • If it’s close to the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one.

  • Do not double the dose.

When Not to Use

Avoid Nexfen if you have:

  • Allergy to Ibuprofen, aspirin, or other NSAIDs

  • History of asthma triggered by NSAIDs

  • Stomach ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding

  • Severe kidney, liver, or heart conditions

  • Recently had heart bypass surgery (CABG)

  • Third trimester of pregnancy

Side Effects

Some people may experience:

  • Stomach pain, nausea, or heartburn

  • Indigestion or diarrhea

  • Dizziness or headache

  • Skin rash or itching

  • Rise in blood pressure (rare)

Seek urgent care if you notice blood in stool, severe chest pain, or sudden allergic reactions.

Warnings & Precautions

  • Use with caution in patients with ulcers, high blood pressure, kidney or liver problems.

  • Avoid alcohol as it increases risk of stomach bleeding.

  • Elderly patients are at higher risk of side effects.

  • Not suitable for long-term continuous use without medical advice.

  • Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before use.

Drug Interactions

Nexfen may interact with:

  • Blood thinners (e.g., warfarin)

  • Other NSAIDs or aspirin

  • Blood pressure medicines (ACE inhibitors, diuretics)

  • Corticosteroids

  • Lithium or methotrexate

  • Antidepressants (SSRIs)

Doctor’s Overview — Dr. Ayesha Khan, MBBS, FCPS (Family Medicine)

Ibuprofen, as in Nexfen, is widely used for pain and fever. It provides quick relief for headaches, menstrual cramps, and muscle aches, and is best taken after meals to reduce stomach irritation. While safe for short-term use, patients with ulcers, kidney, or heart problems should be monitored carefully.
