Levofloxacin 500mg is an antibiotic medicine from the fluoroquinolone group. It is prescribed for the treatment of a range of bacterial infections. It works by stopping the growth and spread of bacteria, allowing the body’s immune system to control and eliminate the infection. This medicine is only effective against bacterial infections and will not treat viral illnesses such as colds or the flu.

How to Use

• Take the tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

• Swallow whole with a full glass of water; do not crush, chew, or break it.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Try to take it at the same time each day for best results.

• Maintain a 2–3 hour gap before or after consuming antacids, milk, or supplements containing calcium, magnesium, iron, or zinc.

• Complete the full course of treatment even if you feel better — stopping early may allow the infection to return.

• Do not change the dose or stop the medicine without your doctor’s advice.

Formula:
Each tablet contains Levofloxacin hemihydrate, equivalent to 500mg of Levofloxacin.

Precautions

• Use only on the advice of a registered medical practitioner.

• Not recommended for children or adolescents unless specifically prescribed.

• Avoid use if you have a history of tendon disorders related to quinolone antibiotics.

• Inform your doctor if you have kidney problems, heart rhythm disturbances, epilepsy, or low potassium levels.

• Avoid unnecessary sun exposure; use sunscreen or protective clothing to prevent photosensitivity.

• Maintain at least a 2-hour gap before or after taking products containing calcium, magnesium, iron, or zinc (such as milk, antacids, or supplements).

• Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use only if clearly needed and prescribed.

Possible Side Effects

Common:

• Nausea or vomiting

• Diarrhoea

• Headache

• Dizziness

• Stomach discomfort

Rare but Serious (seek medical help immediately):

• Pain, swelling, or inflammation in tendons (especially the Achilles tendon)

• Rash, itching, or allergic reaction

• Difficulty breathing or swallowing

• Irregular heartbeat or palpitations

• Severe diarrhoea (possible sign of antibiotic-associated colitis)
