Indications
This medicine is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and as a preventive treatment for long term stable angina (brief episodes of chest pain after physical exertion).
Contraindications
This medicine is contraindicated in patients with unstable angina (chest pain at rest) and cardiovascular diseases including myocardial infarction (heart attack), heart failure, obstruction of the heart’s outflow, valvular (heart valves) disease, aortic stenosis (narrowing of the major artery of the heart) and shock.
Precautions
Patients with liver impairment, left ventricular dysfunction (a complication of myocardial infarction) and tachycardia (fast heart rate) are advised to observe precautions while using this medicine.
Side-effects
The common side-effects are dizziness, fatigue, headache, flushing (feeling of warmth and rapid reddening of the face, neck, and chest), palpitations (feeling of pounding heart) dental gingiva enlargement, vomiting, and ankle edema (swelling of the ankle).
Pregnancy
This medicine is contraindicated in pregnancy. Consult your healthcare provider for further guidance.
Lactation
Not recommended in nursing mothers, as effects are unknown.
