Description
Romycin contains Azithromycin 500 mg, a broad-spectrum antibiotic from the macrolide class. It works by stopping bacterial protein synthesis, which prevents bacteria from multiplying and spreading in the body. Azithromycin is known for its ability to concentrate at the site of infection and remain active for a longer duration, allowing once-daily dosing in many cases. It is commonly prescribed for respiratory tract infections, skin infections, ear infections, and uncomplicated genital infections.
Uses
-
Treatment of upper and lower respiratory tract infections (such as bronchitis, pneumonia, pharyngitis, tonsillitis)
-
Management of skin and soft tissue infections
-
Treatment of otitis media (ear infection)
-
Treatment of uncomplicated genital infections
Dosage
-
Take orally with water, with or without food.
-
Follow the prescribed dose by your physician; typical courses are short due to the drug’s long tissue half-life.
-
Avoid taking with antacids containing aluminum or magnesium, as they reduce absorption.
In Case of Overdose
Symptoms may include severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or hearing problems. Immediate medical attention is necessary.

Doctor’s Review
Dr. Ayesha Malik (Infectious Disease Specialist):
“Azithromycin is a reliable broad-spectrum antibiotic often chosen for respiratory and skin infections because of its convenience of short-course therapy and once-daily dosing. It accumulates well in tissues, which helps maintain long-term antibacterial activity. However, it must be used responsibly to avoid antibiotic resistance, and patients should always complete the full course.”
