Description

Cetirizine is a second-generation antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy/watery eyes, and throat irritation caused by hay fever (allergic rhinitis). It also helps in treating hives (urticaria) and chronic skin allergies. By blocking histamine — the chemical responsible for allergic reactions — it provides relief with less drowsiness than older antihistamines, making it suitable for daytime use. Cetirizine is commonly available in 10mg tablets for adults and children above 6 years.

Doctor’s Review

Dr. Ayesha Rahman – Consultant Allergist & Immunologist
“Cetirizine belongs to the class of second-generation antihistamines. It is widely recognized for controlling allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and hives. Compared to older antihistamines, it generally causes less sedation, which makes it more suitable for daytime use. As with all antihistamines, dosing considerations may be needed in individuals with kidney or liver problems, and occasional mild side effects can occur.”
