Indication:
This medication is used to treat smooth muscle spasm
Contraindication:
This medication is contraindicated in patients with myasthenia gravis ( an autoimmune neuromuscular disorder that is characterized by fatigue and exhaustion of muscles), paralytic ileus (paralysis of intestinal muscles), pyloric stenosis (narrowed stomach opening), acute colonic distension (buildup of gas or accumulation of fluid), prostatic enlargement, coma, unconsciousness, and iodine sensitivity
Side effects:
The patients taking this medication may experience constipation, transient decrease in heart rate (followed by increased heart rate, palpitation, and arrhythmia), reduced lung secretions, urinary urgency and retention, dilation of pupils with loss of accommodation, sensitivity to light, dry mouth, flushing, and dryness of skin. Occasionally it can cause confusion, nausea, vomiting, and giddiness, and angle-closure glaucoma
Precautions:
The patients taking this medication must be cautious in cases of Down’s syndrome, in children and elderly, in GERD, diarrhea, ulcerative colitis, autonomic neuropathy, increased blood pressure, conditions characterized by increased heart rate (increased thyroid hormone, cardiac insufficiency, cardiac surgery), fever, and in people susceptible to narrow-angle glaucoma.
Interaction:
This medication may interact with amantadine, atenolol, digoxin, phenothiazines, tricyclic antidepressants
Pregnancy:
This medication is contraindicated in pregnant females
Lactation:
This medication is contraindicated in nursing females
