Cefuroxime is a cephalosporin antibiotic, used to treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, skin, joints, bone, bladder, kidneys and lungs. Cefuroxime also treats sepsis, gonorrhea and the early stages of Lyme disease. To avoid infection, Cefuroxime injection is sometimes also administered before and after surgery. Cefuroxime acts by preventing bacterial growth. It only addresses bacterial infections. It is ineffective against virus infection (such as flu, common cold).

Expert Advice
- You may get diarrhea or stomach discomfort while taking Cefuroxime, but this should subside soon after the course is over. Consult your doctor if the diarrhea worsens.
- Take all of the medicine prescribed by your doctor even if you begin to feel better. Stopping it too soon may lead the bacteria to acquire resistance, making the infection more difficult to cure.
- Keep Cefuroxime in its original container, properly closed, and out of the reach of children and pets.
- Keep Cefuroxime tablets at room temperature and away from sources of extreme moisture and heat.
