Uropin

Introduction

Uropin 100mg tablet contains Phenazopyridine HCl, a urinary tract analgesic that provides relief from pain, burning, and irritation associated with urinary tract infections or procedures. It is not an antibiotic and must be used alongside appropriate therapy for the underlying cause.

Primary Uses

• Pain and burning relief in urinary tract infections

• Irritation due to cystitis, urethritis, or prostatitis

• Discomfort following catheter use or urinary procedures

Indications

For symptomatic relief of pain, urgency, frequency, and irritation caused by infection, trauma, surgery, or instrumentation of the lower urinary tract.

How It Works

Phenazopyridine is excreted in urine, where it acts locally on the urinary tract lining to reduce discomfort. The exact mechanism is unclear but clinically effective.

Side Effects

May include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, rash, discoloration of urine or body fluids, jaundice, renal issues (in overdose), or rare blood-related reactions such as hemolytic anemia (especially in G6PD deficiency).

Warnings

• Pregnancy & Lactation: Avoid prolonged use; consult physician.

• Kidney or liver disease: Contraindicated.

• G6PD Deficiency: Use cautiously due to risk of hemolysis.

• Not a substitute for antibiotics — treat underlying cause separately.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to Phenazopyridine

• Renal insufficiency or severe liver disease

Precautions

• Causes orange/red urine and may stain fabric or contact lenses

• Stop use if skin or eye discoloration appears

• Short-term use only (typically 2–3 days)
