Vax-Tet is a tetanus toxoid vaccine used to prevent tetanus (lockjaw) — a serious bacterial infection caused by Clostridium tetani. The toxoid is an inactivated form of the tetanus toxin that stimulates the body’s immune system to produce protective antibodies without causing disease.

Primary Uses

  • Active immunization against tetanus in infants, children, adolescents, and adults.

  • Post-exposure prophylaxis in case of injury, cuts, burns, or contaminated wounds when vaccination status is uncertain or outdated.

Indications

  • Routine immunization in childhood vaccination schedule.

  • Booster every 10 years in adults.

  • Emergency booster after dirty or deep wounds if last dose was more than 5 years ago.

How to Use

  • Dose: 0.5ml injected intramuscularly (preferably in deltoid for adults / thigh for children).

  • Do not inject in gluteal region or into blood vessels.

  • Childhood Schedule: At 2, 4, 6, 18 months and then at 4–6 years.

  • Adults: One booster every 10 years or earlier after injury.

Side Effects

  • Pain, swelling, or redness at injection site

  • Dizziness or allergic reactions

  • Use cautiously in patients with fever, infection, or neurological disorders.
