Description

Xiga Tablets contain Dapagliflozin, an SGLT2 inhibitor. This medicine lowers blood glucose by reducing renal reabsorption of glucose in the kidneys, leading to increased urinary glucose excretion. By acting on the proximal renal tubules, it helps maintain glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes.

How it Works

• Inhibits SGLT2 protein in the kidneys

• Lowers renal threshold for glucose

• Increases glucose elimination via urine

Side Effects

Common:

• Urinary tract infections

• Increased urination

• Genital infections

• Dizziness

Uncommon / Rare:

• Volume depletion

• Diabetic ketoacidosis

• Hypotension

• Skin rash

• Back pain

Drug Interactions

• ACE inhibitors

• Fluoroquinolones

• Somatostatin analogues

• Other SGLT2 inhibitors

• Insulin or sulfonylureas (risk of hypoglycemia)

Indications

• Adjunct to diet and exercise for glycemic control in type 2 diabetes mellitus.

When Not to Use

• Hypersensitivity to Dapagliflozin

• Severe renal impairment or patients on dialysis

• End-stage renal disease

• Active or history of bladder cancer

Precautions

• Monitor hydration status (risk of volume depletion)

• Increased risk of genital mycotic infections

• Monitor for hypoglycemia when used with insulin or sulfonylureas

• Caution in elderly and patients with impaired renal function

Warnings

1. May cause hypoglycemia when combined with insulin/secretagogues.

2. Contraindicated in active bladder cancer cases.

3. Increases susceptibility to genital infections.
