Xylosine nasal spray contains xylometazoline in 0.1% strength which is an alpha1 & alpha2 adrenergic receptor agonist (sympathomimetic effect; mimic effects of agonists of sympathetic nervous system). It belongs to the category of decongestant nasal preparations. It works by shrinking or narrowing blood vessels present in nose as dilated blood vessels cause stuffy nose. Hence narrowing of small vessels relives blocked up feeling & helps in reducing swelling and congestion.
