Zetamax syrup

Description

Zetamax Suspension contains Azithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic known for its extended action and once-daily dosing. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, preventing bacterial growth and replication. Its bacteriostatic activity offers broad-spectrum coverage against respiratory, skin, and soft tissue pathogens commonly observed in children.

Uses

Zetamax Suspension is used for the treatment of bacterial infections such as:

• Respiratory tract infections (including pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis).

• Skin and soft tissue infections.

• Ear infections (otitis media).

• Certain gastrointestinal and genitourinary infections.

Dosage

Formulated with Azithromycin 200mg per 5ml.
Dosing is determined by the prescribing physician based on body weight and infection severity.

Side Effects

Reported side effects include:

• Sudden wheezing or breathing difficulty.

• Swelling of lips, face, or eyelids.

• Rash or itching.

• Severe or prolonged diarrhoea (with or without blood or mucus).

• Skin redness, blistering, or peeling.

• Rapid or irregular heartbeat.

• Low blood pressure.

Drug Interactions

Caution is advised when used alongside:

• Ergot derivatives (e.g., ergotamine).

• Warfarin.

• Ciclosporin.

• Antacids.

• Digoxin.

• Colchicine.

• Terfenadine.

When Not to Use

Do not administer Zetamax if:

• There is a known allergy to Azithromycin, Erythromycin, Clarithromycin, or related antibiotics.

Precautions

• Monitor for palpitations, dizziness, or fainting.

• Report any symptoms of muscle weakness.

Warnings

• Persistent or severe diarrhoea during or after treatment should be referred to a doctor immediately.

• Take the suspension 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals for optimal absorption.

• Contains lactose — patients with intolerance should consult a physician before use.

Storage

Store at room temperature, away from direct light and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
