Indication:
This medication is indicated in cases of serious infection due to amikacin sensitive gram negative organisms. This medication is also given in known or suspected staphylococcus infections.
Contraindication:
This medication is contraindicated in patients with myasthenia gravis (chronic autoimmune muscle weakening).
Precaution:
The patient must be cautious of renal impairment, hearing damage, and parkinsonism (disease of the central nervous system). The patient must also be cautious if elderly and must ensure adequate hydration.
Side effect:
The patients taking this medication may have ototoxicity (damage to the ear), nephrotoxicity (damage to the kidney), neuromuscular blockade (blocking of the receptors on nerves and muscles).
Pregnancy:
This medication is contraindicated in pregnant and lactating females.
Lactation:
This medication is contraindicated in nursing females.
