Introduction
Dexoflox is an eye preparation prescribed for treating bacterial eye infections. Patients are given this medicine to help clear redness, irritation, discharge, and swelling so that the eye can recover more comfortably.
Composition
This product combines two active medicines. Ofloxacin is an antibiotic that fights infection by stopping bacteria from multiplying. Alongside it, Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid that calms inflammation and swelling inside the eye. Together, they work to control both the infection and the irritation it causes.
Medical Use
Doctors most often prescribe Dexoflox for bacterial conjunctivitis, an infection that makes the eyes red and sticky. It is also used in cases where swelling and discharge are linked to bacterial infection, and in some patients after eye surgery to lower the risk of infection while keeping inflammation under control.
How to Use
Dexoflox is applied directly to the eyes, usually in the form of drops or ointment. The exact schedule depends on the severity of the infection and the doctor’s instructions. Patients are advised to wash their hands before use and to avoid touching the dropper or applicator tip to the eye or lashes, as this can contaminate the medicine.
Precautions
Because Dexoflox contains both an antibiotic and a steroid, it must be used only under the supervision of an eye specialist. It is not suitable for viral or fungal infections. Continuous or unsupervised use may increase eye pressure or lead to glaucoma. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should only use it if advised by a doctor. The medicine should be kept in a cool place, away from sunlight, and discarded if its color changes or it appears cloudy.
Side Effects
Some patients notice mild burning or stinging after putting the drops in, and vision may blur for a few moments. With long-term or excessive use, the steroid part can raise eye pressure or cause other complications. Severe allergic reactions are very rare but need urgent medical attention.
Doctor’s Review – Dr. Asad Mehmood, Consultant Ophthalmologist
Dexoflox is used in bacterial eye infections where both infection and inflammation are present. The antibiotic helps clear the bacteria, while the steroid reduces redness and swelling. It should be used with care, as misuse of steroid–antibiotic combinations can be harmful. Medical advice is recommended if symptoms do not improve within a few days.
