Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to reduce stomach acid. It helps relieve symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), promotes healing of the esophagus, and prevents further damage in adults with GERD. It is also prescribed to lower the risk of developing ulcers, treat and prevent the return of stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), and manage frequent heartburn.

How It Works
Esomeprazole decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach, helping to reduce irritation and allow healing of acid-related damage.

How to Use

• Swallow the capsule whole — do not split, crush, or chew it.

• If swallowing is difficult:

  • Place 1 tablespoon of cool, soft applesauce in a bowl.

  • Open the capsule and sprinkle the pellets over the applesauce.

  • Swallow the mixture immediately without chewing. Do not store for later use.

• For oral suspension packets:

  • 2.5 mg or 5 mg: mix with 1 teaspoon (5 mL) of water.

  • 10 mg, 20 mg, or 40 mg: mix with 1 tablespoon (15 mL) of water.

  • Stir, wait 2–3 minutes to thicken, stir again, and drink within 30 minutes.

• Take with food if advised by your doctor.

• Take at the same time each day for best results.

• Follow the prescribed dosage — do not take more than directed.
