Getformin

Getformin is a combination of glimepiride and metformin, two medicines used together for better control of type 2 diabetes. Glimepiride works by stimulating the pancreas to release more insulin, especially around mealtimes, while metformin lowers glucose production in the liver and helps the body use insulin more effectively. This combination improves blood sugar balance when diet, exercise, or single therapy are not enough. It is not used for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Primary Uses

• Type 2 diabetes mellitus

• Better blood sugar control when single therapy is not effective

• Prevention of diabetes-related complications (kidney, nerve, eye problems)

How to Use

• Take by mouth with meals to reduce stomach upset.

• Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew.

• Take at the same time every day.

• Always follow your doctor’s prescribed dose and schedule.

Side Effects
Some patients may experience:

• Low blood sugar (sweating, dizziness, shaking, fast heartbeat)

• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach upset

• Headache or tiredness

• Vitamin B12 deficiency with long-term use

• Rare: lactic acidosis (unusual muscle pain, difficulty breathing, severe weakness)

Warnings and Precautions

• Not suitable for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

• Use with caution in kidney or liver disease.

• Avoid heavy alcohol use as it increases the risk of lactic acidosis.

• Pregnant or breastfeeding women should only use under medical supervision.

• Blood sugar should be monitored regularly (including HbA1c).

• Be careful while driving or operating machinery if you feel dizzy due to low sugar.

Contraindications
Do not use Getformin if you have:

• Allergy to glimepiride, metformin, or related medicines

• Severe kidney or liver problems

• Heart failure or severe breathing disorders

• Ongoing vomiting, diarrhea, or dehydration

• History of lactic acidosis

Overdose
Overdose may cause severe low blood sugar, nausea, abdominal pain, dizziness, or confusion. Immediate medical help is required.

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one. Do not double dose.

Storage
Store at room temperature, away from direct light, heat, and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after expiry.
