Description
This medicine is used to control blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes.
- 
Glimepiride helps the pancreas release more insulin. 
- 
Metformin lowers sugar production in the liver, reduces absorption from food, and helps the body use insulin better. 
 Used together, they help keep blood sugar within a healthy range.
Uses
- 
Type 2 diabetes mellitus 
- 
For patients whose blood sugar is not controlled by diet and exercise alone 
Dosage
- 
Dose is decided by the doctor. 
- 
Usually taken once or twice daily with meals. 
- 
Do not take more than the prescribed amount. 
Overdose
- 
Glimepiride overdose: can cause low blood sugar (sweating, shaking, confusion). 
- 
Metformin overdose: can cause lactic acidosis (serious condition with weakness, stomach pain, or trouble breathing). 
 Seek medical help immediately if overdose is suspected.
Missed Dose
- 
Take as soon as you remember. 
- 
If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one. 
- 
Do not double the dose. 
How to Use
- 
Take with meals to reduce stomach upset. 
- 
Swallow whole with water. 
- 
Take at the same time every day. 
When Not to Use
Do not use if you have:
- 
Severe kidney or liver disease 
- 
Allergy to Glimepiride or Metformin 
- 
Pregnancy or breastfeeding (unless advised by doctor) 
- 
Severe infection, dehydration, or are scheduled for surgery (insulin may be needed instead) 
Side Effects
Common:
- 
Nausea, diarrhea, stomach upset 
- 
Dizziness, headache 
- 
Low blood sugar (shaking, sweating, weakness) 
Other:
- 
Weight gain (Glimepiride) 
- 
Vitamin B12 deficiency (long-term Metformin use) 
Serious but rare:
- 
Lactic acidosis (severe weakness, abdominal pain, difficulty breathing) 
Precautions
- 
Check blood sugar regularly. 
- 
Do not skip meals. 
- 
Tell your doctor about all medicines you use. 
- 
Avoid alcohol. 
Storage
- 
Store at room temperature, in a dry place. 
- 
Keep away from heat, light, and moisture. 
- 
Keep out of children’s reach. 
- 
Do not use after expiry date.
