Solosin SR Capsules contain Tamsulosin Hydrochloride, a selective alpha-1A adrenergic receptor antagonist used in the management of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) — a common condition in older men characterized by prostate enlargement and difficulty urinating. By relaxing the smooth muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, Solosin SR improves urine flow and relieves associated symptoms like weak stream, urgency, and incomplete bladder emptying.
Primary Uses
-
Treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with BPH.
-
Relief from urinary hesitancy, frequency, and nocturia.
-
Improvement in urine flow rate and bladder emptying.
-
Reduction in post-void residual urine.
Indications
Tamsulosin HCl is indicated for the functional treatment of symptoms of BPH, including difficulty in starting urination, poor urinary stream, and frequent urination, especially at night.
How It Works
Tamsulosin selectively blocks alpha-1A adrenergic receptors predominantly located in the prostate gland, bladder neck, and urethra. This blockade reduces smooth muscle tone, relieving obstruction and allowing easier urine flow. Its receptor selectivity minimizes the risk of systemic blood pressure reduction compared to non-selective alpha-blockers.
Dosage
Adults (Male): 0.4mg once daily, taken after the same meal each day.
Swallow the capsule whole with water. Do not crush or chew.
If a dose is missed, take it later the same day. Do not double the dose.
Side Effects

Uncommon:
-
Headache, palpitations.
-
Orthostatic hypotension (drop in blood pressure upon standing).
-
Nasal congestion, constipation, nausea, diarrhea, rash, or itching.
Rare:
-
Fainting or severe dizziness (syncope).
Drug Interactions
-
Alpha-blockers (doxazosin, prazosin, indoramin): Additive hypotensive effect.
-
Antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole, fluconazole): Increased plasma levels of Tamsulosin.
-
Macrolide antibiotics (erythromycin, clarithromycin): Enhanced drug effect.
-
CYP3A4 inhibitors (verapamil, diltiazem, ritonavir, saquinavir): May elevate Tamsulosin concentration.
-
Warfarin, Diclofenac: May alter drug metabolism or clearance.
Warnings & Precautions
-
Orthostatic Hypotension: If dizziness or fainting occurs, sit or lie down immediately until symptoms subside.
-
Ejaculation Disorders: Tamsulosin may cause retrograde ejaculation or inability to ejaculate.
-
Renal or Hepatic Impairment: Use with caution; contraindicated in severe liver disease.
-
Eye Surgery: Inform your ophthalmologist before cataract or glaucoma surgery due to risk of Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome (IFIS).
Contraindications
Do not use if:
-
Allergic to Tamsulosin or any component of the capsule
-
History of angioedema (swelling of lips, tongue, or throat) after alpha-blockers
-
Severe hepatic impairment
-
Previous fainting due to postural hypotension
Doctor Review
Dr. Faisal Ahmad, MBBS, FCPS (Urology) – Consultant Urologist:
“Tamsulosin 0.4mg SR is the preferred first-line therapy for symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia, owing to its high uroselectivity and minimal vascular side effects. It demonstrates significant improvement in International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and urine flow rates (Qmax) with early symptom relief within 1–2 weeks. Clinical trials confirm sustained efficacy and tolerability for long-term BPH management. Patients must be counseled regarding potential dizziness and retrograde ejaculation, while monitoring is advised before ophthalmic surgery to prevent IFIS.”
