Wontaxime

Description

Wontaxime Injection is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to fight a wide range of bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, ultimately killing the bacteria. It is administered intravenously (IV) or intramuscularly (IM) under medical supervision.

Primary Uses

• Respiratory Tract Infections (Pneumonia, Bronchitis).

• Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs).

• Skin & Soft Tissue Infections.

• Bone and Joint Infections.

• Abdominal Infections & Peritonitis.

• Septicemia (Bloodstream Infections).

• ENT Infections (Ear, Nose, Throat).

• Post-Surgical Infection Prophylaxis.

Dosage & Administration

• Adults: 1–2 g once or twice daily (IV/IM) depending on infection severity.

• Severe Cases: Up to 4 g/day in divided doses.

• Children: 50–100 mg/kg/day (as per physician).

• To be administered only by a healthcare professional.

Side Effects

Common:

• Pain or swelling at injection site.

• Diarrhea.

• Nausea / vomiting.

Rare but Serious:

• Allergic reaction (rash, itching, breathing difficulty).

• Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea.

• Liver or kidney function disturbances.

Warnings & Precautions

• Use cautiously in patients with kidney or liver impairment.

• Avoid in penicillin or cephalosporin-allergic patients.

• May alter gut flora → risk of secondary infections.

• Long-term use may lead to antibiotic resistance.

Contraindications

• Known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillins.

• Severe renal impairment without dose adjustment.

• Neonates with hyperbilirubinemia (for ceftriaxone variant).
