Xeflox

Description

Xeflox 500mg contains Levofloxacin, a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial DNA-gyrase, which prevents bacteria from multiplying and leads to their destruction. It is active against both gram-positive and gram-negative organisms, making it suitable for respiratory, urinary, and skin-related infections.

Indications

Used in the treatment of:

• Acute and chronic sinusitis

• Community-acquired pneumonia

• Acute & chronic bronchitis

• Complicated and uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs)

• Acute pyelonephritis

• Complicated skin and soft tissue infections

• Nosocomial pneumonia

• Typhoid and paratyphoid fever

How It Works

Levofloxacin blocks DNA-gyrase, an enzyme essential for bacterial DNA replication. Without this function, bacteria cannot divide and eventually die.

Side Effects

Commonly Reported:

• Drop in blood pressure

• Tendon pain or rupture (especially Achilles tendon)

Drug Interactions

Use with caution when taken alongside:

• Antacids, sucralfate, or products containing metal cations (iron, magnesium, zinc) — may reduce absorption

• Multivitamins

• NSAIDs (may increase risk of nervous system effects)

Precautions & Warnings

• Avoid excessive sunlight; discontinue use if rash develops

• Maintain adequate hydration to prevent crystalluria

• Use cautiously in kidney impairment — dose adjustment may be needed

• Discontinue immediately if hypersensitivity or anaphylactic reaction occurs

Contraindications

• Known allergy to Levofloxacin or other quinolone antibiotics
