Description
Olopatadine blocks peripheral H1 histamine receptors and stabilizes mast cells, reducing allergic mediators in the conjunctiva. Result: relief from itching, redness, and irritation due to allergic conjunctivitis.
Primary Uses
-
Allergic conjunctivitis (seasonal or perennial).
-
Ocular itching, watering, redness from allergens (pollen, dust, pet dander).
How It Works
-
H1 antagonism: prevents histamine binding → less itch/redness.
-
Mast-cell stabilization: limits mediator release and eosinophil activation.
Dosage / How to Use
-
Adults & children ≥3 years: 1 drop in affected eye(s) twice daily, or as directed.
-
For topical ophthalmic use only.
-
Wash hands; don’t touch dropper tip; close cap tightly.
Side Effects

Doctor’s Review
Dr. Ayesha Khan, Ophthalmologist:
“Olopatadine is a dependable first-line option for allergic conjunctivitis. It calms itch quickly and controls inflammation with good tolerability. Correct drop technique and pausing contact-lens wear during flares are key for best results.”
