Volvez 100mg Tablet 10’s – Uses Benefits and Side Effects
Volvez 100mg Tablet 10’s is a prescription antibiotic manufactured by Opal Laboratories in Pakistan. It contains Cefpodoxime (100mg), a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic from the beta-lactam class.
Broad-spectrum antibiotic, meaning it works against a wide range of gram-negative and some gram-positive bacteria. Doctors commonly prescribe for treating respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, skin infections, ear infections, and sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea.
Available as oral tablets (100mg and 200mg) and oral suspension (40mg/5ml). It is important to note that only works against bacterial infections it is not effective against viral infections such as the common cold, flu, or viral fever. Misusing antibiotics can reduce their effectiveness for future infections.
How Works (Mechanism of Action)
Volvez works by killing bacteria directly through a process called bactericidal action. The active ingredient, Cefpodoxime, targets the bacterial cell wall.
Binds to Penicillin Binding Protein 3 (PBP-3) inside bacteria and blocks the production of peptidoglycan a key building block of the bacterial cell wall. Without a functioning cell wall, bacteria cannot survive and are destroyed.
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
- Enterococcus species.
- Bacteroides fragilis.
Indications & Uses of Volvez
- Respiratory tract infections — pneumonia, bronchitis, and acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis.
- Ear infections (Otitis Media) — caused by S. pneumoniae, H. influenzae, and M. catarrhalis.
- Sinus infections (Maxillary Sinusitis) — bacterial inflammation of the sinuses.
- Throat infections — tonsillitis and pharyngitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes.
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs) — including uncomplicated cystitis.
- Gonorrhea — uncomplicated urethral, cervical, and anorectal infections.
- Skin and soft tissue infections — bacterial skin structure infections.
How to Take Volvez
Taking correctly is essential for the best results. Follow these guidelines:
- Take orally with food (during meals). Food increases absorption and reduces stomach upset.
- Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break it.
- Take at evenly spaced intervals every 12 or 24 hours as your doctor prescribes.
- Complete the full course of even if you start feeling better. Stopping early can cause the infection to return and promote antibiotic resistance.
- Do not take antacids within 2 hours before, as they reduce the drug’s absorption.
- If using the oral suspension, shake well before each use. Always measure with the calibrated device provided never use a household spoon.

- Max daily dose (children under 12): 200 mg/day.
- Max daily dose (12+ years and adults): 400 mg/day.
Elderly Dose:
Elderly patients (65+) with normal kidney function typically do not need a dose adjustment. However, those with impaired kidney function should receive modified doses based on creatinine clearance levels.
Pharmacokinetics of Volvez (How Moves in Your Body)
Absorption:
- About 50% of the dose is absorbed when taken on an empty stomach.
- When is taken with food, absorption increases by 21–33%.
- Peak blood concentration after a 100mg dose is approximately 1.4 mcg/mL.
Distribution:
- Protein binding of ranges from 22% to 33% in serum.
- Reaches therapeutic levels in tonsils, lungs, skin tissue, and middle ear fluid.
Onset & Duration:
- Time to peak concentration: 2 to 3 hours after taking.
- Duration of action: Approximately 12 hours, which supports twice-daily dosing.
Elimination:
- Undergoes minimal metabolism in the body.
- Half-life: 2–3 hours in adults; approximately 4.2 hours in elderly patients.
- Around 29–33% of the dose is excreted unchanged through the kidneys within 12 hours.
Antibiotic Resistance & Volvez: What You Need to Know
- Beta-lactamase enzymes — Some bacteria produce advanced enzymes (ESBLs) that break down the structure, making it ineffective.
- Altered target proteins — Bacteria can change their Penicillin Binding Proteins (PBPs).
- Reduced permeability — Some bacteria shrink or close the porin channels in their outer membrane.
