Cefobid® is a broad-spectrum, third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic containing Cefoperazone Sodium. It is used for serious bacterial infections requiring hospital-based intravenous or intramuscular therapy.
Key Benefits
-
Broad coverage against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria
-
Effective in respiratory, urinary, abdominal, and skin infections
-
Reaches high concentrations in bile and body fluids
-
Suitable for monotherapy or combination therapy with aminoglycosides
Mechanism of Action
Cefoperazone works by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), blocking bacterial cell wall synthesis and leading to cell death. It remains active against many resistant strains and achieves high bile concentrations, making it effective for biliary and intra-abdominal infections.
