Te-Anatoxal

Description

Te-Anatoxal is a tetanus toxoid vaccine used to prevent tetanus (lockjaw) — a serious bacterial infection caused by contaminated wounds. The vaccine contains an inactivated form of the tetanus toxin (toxoid) which triggers immunity without causing the disease.

When It’s Used

• Part of routine childhood and adult vaccination schedules

• Given as a booster every 10 years

• Required after cuts, burns, or dirty wounds if last booster was more than 5 years ago

How It’s Given

• Injected intramuscularly in the thigh (children) or deltoid/upper arm (adults)

• Should not be injected in the gluteal region

• Must be administered by a trained healthcare professional

Common Side Effects

• Mild fever

• Injection site pain or swelling

• Fatigue or body aches

• Nausea or headache (rare)

Dr. Hassan Raza (Consultant Immunologist) states that tetanus vaccine remains the only reliable protection against lockjaw, as the infection itself cannot be cured once it appears. Even minor injuries should be taken seriously if vaccination history is unclear.
